Water Fairy Dress

This project consists of two pieces the dress and the over coat. The dress is one piece and sewed at center front. The bodice has adjustable drawstrings which are the fastening devices. The drawstring casings are ribbon and sewn on the right side of the garment. The upper edge is encased in the upper drawstring. The center front seam is French seamed, and the lower edges are roll hemmed. The over coat is made of two pattern pieces the front and back. The seams are French seams, and all edges are roll hemmed. The over coat has a tie at center front and two ties for each side of the waist. Side seams are sewn from the waist point down, leaving the sleeves open.

Project Name

This dress as well as the other garments for this class were all designed with the theme of "the elements" fire, water, earth, and air in mind. This is because they were entered in the "Threads Fashion Show" which is hosted by Central Michigan University and is developed by their students. The Water Fairy dress was designed specifically with the element water in mind.

Project Name

One very important step to creating a garment tis to have a specific end design. This design may be changed as you drape, but the frame work is very important. For this Project I uses Adobe Illustrator to create my design sketch

The first step is to drape the patter, for the over coat I used the basic kimono sleeve technique. which means attaching am arm form to the dress form. Unfortunately I did not take any pictures of this step.

The under dress was very simple to draft. For this pattern I used a rectangle to create the pattern, it is one pattern piece. the bodice is secured by ribbons above and below the bust.
