Mother Earth Dress

Sleeveless maxi dress with waist seam and V-neck. The bodice has a cowled underarm and a gathered bodice. Off the back shoulder are capelets. The skirt has box pleats in the front and back. In the front the pleats come to a peak. The dress is closed with a Invisible zipper and hook and eye at center back.

The requirement for this dress was to use either pleats or gathers in the design. I used both pleats and gathers.

Project Name

This dress as well as the other garments for this class were all designed with the theme of "the elements" fire, water, earth, and air in mind. This is because they were entered in the "Threads Fashion Show" which is hosted by Central Michigan University and is developed by their students. The Mother Earth dress was designed specifically with the element earth in mind.

Project Name

One very important step to creating a garment tis to have a specific end design. This design may be changed as you drape, but the frame work is very important. For this Project I uses Adobe Illustrator to create my design sketch

Draping the bodice for this dress was difficult for me so I had to closely follow the instructions detailed on page 315 of

The skirt portion of the dress was much easier to create and consists of a rectangle box pleated with a peak shape at center front.

The final step of pattern drafting is to true all the seams and label all of the pieces with name, date, course, name of project, name of piece, cut instructions, and size.
