Digital Technologies and Craftsmanship

This class, unlike many of my other courses, only has two large projects. which means that the project are more detailed because there is more time allotted to each one. the main technologies used in this class are print developing software, pattern scanners, and my favorite piece, a laser cutter.

The design has a boat neckline with a maxi skirt and long sleeves. The sleeves, as well as the skirt ruffles are three different layers and colors of polyester Georgette. The bodice has an Empire waistline. The over skirt has an arced section cut out starting at just under the left hip. The dress is lined in the bodice and skirt. The Skirt lining has the ruffles attached to it; the ruffles have about a three to one gathering ratio. The dress is closed with an invisible zipper located under the right arm. The pattern pieces will be cut out using a laser cutter.

White Fabric

The first project of this class was to find five different fabric manipulation techniques to be used later in the semester on the to garment construction projects. Below is a slide show of my work and how I came about my results.

Print Option 2 Merged.jpg

The first garment project was the repeat print project. The requirement for this project was that 50% of the garment must consist of a custom printed fabric of my design. The inspiration for this dress comes from the Aroura Borealis. The first step to this project was to create a mood board comprised of inspiration pictures. The second step is to create a design sketch. The third step is to create the pattern for the garment the fourth step is to create the print for the fabric. The final step is to create the garment.

The final steps of pattern development and construction will be added when the garment is complete.
